First I removed all electronic parts, AF and aperture drives, cables, light sensors. After that I’ve cut side area under the focus ring and attached metal wire to the inner focusing cylinder.

For this test, the Fujifilm XF 27mm F2.8 R WR lens was attached to a Fujifilm X-E4 body, which was in turn mounted to a sturdy tripod. Exposure delay mode was activated. Tonal and colour variance across the crops are due to change in natural light during the session. The centre is sharp wide open, with peak performance achieved in the f/4-8 range.
GregWard. Welcome to the forum. If you look at the front of your lens you will see various numbers. The 27mm and f2.8 you already know about (the focal length and widest aperture). The remaining number (39) is the size of the filter thread (nb you will typically find this written inside the lens cap as well).

Lens outer focus ring catches that wire and now this XF 27mm F2.8 lens can be used in fully manual mode with true manual focus.
Who knows. I have a very unpopular opinion and I assume it. I think the 27mm f/2.8 is not a good lens. It’s a good body cap, and I would pay maybe $200 for it. But $400-500 is ridiculous. Fujinon XF 27mm F2.8 is a smallest native Fuji X lens. It makes camera set very compact and versatile, it's one of my favorite Fuji glass. However, like other XF lens, if any electronic component fails - lens become unusable. Sometimes repair cost is too high comparing to the price of the new lens.
